The Technological Education Institute of Piraeus is an autonomous Higher Education Institution of Public Law. It is mainly supported by state funds and the Special Account of Research.
 
Special Account of Research:
 
This account is handling allocations for research and education as well as allocations such as Operational Program for Education and Initial Vocational Training (O.P.Education), derived from various sources and destined for the cover of expenses that are essential for the needs of research, education, training, project development and continuous training.
 
In the framework of the new culture of international education, all foundations of higher education are charged with a new social cost derived from their active participation in the economy. Applied technological research is constantly creating closer bonds withproduction units. This connection is materialized through the Special Account and this is why this account is constantly upgraded.
 
Technological Research Center:
 
Within the bounds of approach of T.E.I. with the Production Units, this Technological Research Center (T.R.C.) of Piraeus and Islands aims at elaborating researches and studies within its area of responsibility.
 
Vocational Training Centre:
 
Located at the centre of Athens, the Vocational Training Centre offers training programs to university and High School graduates.
 
Academic Calendar :
 
Each Academic Year starts on the 1 st of September and ends on the 5 th of July of the following year. It includes two semesters (winter and spring semester) of 15 weeks each. At the end of each semester, two sequential examination periods are programmed (of usually 15 days of length).

Admission conditions:
 
Certificate of Upper Secondary Education (Lyceum Diploma12 years of basic education) and university entrance examination or Technical and Vocational School Certificate and university entrance examination (proportion ofadmission 10%)
 
Main University Regulations:
 
According to the Studies Regulation, published in the Gov. Gar. 816\2151999, the modules are categorized as such:
 
Compulsory (C )
Compulsory Option (CO)
Optional (Op)
The total number of modules for each student is forty (40) and is weighted (240 ECTS credits). Each course may include theory, labs, tutorials, seminars and special projects. Some of the modules are characterized as prerequisites for the attendance of other ones characterized as dependants.
 
Exams:
 
Depending on the way that each module is being instructed, there are Lab examinations, taking place during the semester, projects and two successive examination periods at the end of each semester.
 
Placement:
 
The student is entitled to a sixmonth placement as long as he has successfully attended 2/3 of the compulsory courses and all specialization ones. The aim of the placement is the application of all the knowledge gained during the studies. It can take place in public or private companies as well as in educational centers and enterprises of EU countries, within the framework of European programs. A certain fee is given to the students under placement.
 
Dissertation:
 
The dissertation is elaborated under the supervision of the educational staff on subjects related to the topic of studies, and must be publicly presented to a three member committee, one of them being the supervisor.

Examination and Assessment Regulations:
 
According to the Institution’s studies regulation, grading is in a scale of zero to ten and grade distribution is as follows:
 
8,5-10:Excellent
6,5-8,49:Very Good
5,0-6,49:Good
4,0-4,9:Insufficient
0-3,9:Fail
